About

Holly Holmes, PhD, DipTrans

I am a grant writer, certified Portuguese-to-English translator, and consultant to non-profits and small businesses with specialties in education, social science, government, and media and entertainment.

My continual thirst for knowledge means I am committed to understanding your project from the inside out. I want my track record of persuasive grant-writing, accurate and artful translations, and award-winning research to make your texts the best they can be.

Belo Horizonte, Brazil

My background is in music performance and research, higher education, and non-profit management, including an internship at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC and a U.S. Fulbright Scholar fellowship to conduct fieldwork in Brazil.

I have presented research on music and politics at conferences in the UK, Ireland, France, Denmark, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, and in the US, where I have won both regional and national awards for my work.

I have taught undergraduate courses and workshops at public universities in the US, the UK, and Brazil and worked as an administrator in both for-profit and non-profit arts organizations.

I have written and been awarded grants for myself and for clients from $500 to $10,000,000 and everything in between.

I am a native English speaker from the United States, where I lived, studied, and worked for nearly four decades. I have also lived, worked, and conducted research in Brazil, the UK, and since 2022 in Canada.

My translations have been published by the University of Illinois Press and Upside Down World, while my original articles have appeared in edited volumes by Cambridge Scholars Publishing and Oxford University Press.

My song lyrics have been featured on recordings in the US and across concert venues and festival stages in Brazil.
